Walk into most charitable giving conversations and the ask is the same: write us a check.

That works for a lot of donors. But it leaves an enormous amount of giving potential untapped. The assets most Americans hold — appreciated property, art, jewelry, vehicles, real estate — don't fit neatly into a check.

A Brighter Future Foundation was built specifically to accept what most charities won't.

Why non-cash gifts are often more valuable

When you donate an appreciated asset instead of selling it and donating the cash, you typically receive two benefits: you avoid the capital gains tax you would have owed on the sale, and you deduct the full fair market value of the asset. For assets that have increased significantly in value — whether a painting, a piece of jewelry, or inherited property — this double benefit can make a donated asset worth more to a charity than the equivalent cash value net of taxes.

What we accept

  • Fine art — paintings, works on paper, sculpture, photography, limited edition prints
  • Jewelry and watches — fine jewelry, luxury watches, estate pieces
  • Vehicles — automobiles, boats, aircraft (evaluated case by case)
  • Musical instruments — orchestral instruments, vintage guitars, other collectibles
  • Wine and spirits — cellar collections and individual bottles of significant value
  • Collectibles — coins, stamps, sports memorabilia, and other authenticated collections
  • Cash — always welcome, fully deductible to the extent allowed by law

What we don't accept

We evaluate every gift individually. We decline gifts that are not in acceptable condition, have uncertain provenance, or whose likely sale value does not justify the cost of processing. We will tell you within one business day whether we can accept your gift.

The process

You reach out with a description and photos. We review and respond quickly. If accepted, we coordinate logistics, document the gift, issue an acknowledgment letter, and — for gifts over $5,000 — arrange a qualified appraisal at no cost to you.
