Andy Warhol In Gristede’s Supermarket Near 47th Street Factory, With — Bob Adelman
In 1964, Bob Adelman (1930–2018) accompanied Andy Warhol to a Gristede's supermarket on Second Avenue near the 47th Street Factory to photograph the artist shopping among shelves stocked with Campbell's Soup cans and Brillo boxes — the very commercial products that had become the subject of his most famous works. The resulting photographs are among the most iconic images of Warhol in his natural habitat, blurring the line between the artist and his subject matter.
This archival pigment print on Kodak paper is offered in a limited edition of 50, signed and numbered by Adelman, and has been sold through Westwood Gallery, New York, with auction prices reaching $12,500 USD. Adelman was also celebrated for his civil rights–era documentary photography, including coverage of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington.
