Untitled Anxious Red — Rashid Johnson
Rashid Johnson (born 1977, Chicago) is one of the most significant American artists of his generation, working across painting, sculpture, photography, and video to examine Black identity, cultural anxiety, and the politics of space. His Anxious Men series — schematic, gestural faces rendered in sweeping marker-like strokes — has become central to his practice and to broader conversations about Black psychological experience in contemporary America.
Untitled Anxious Red (2021) is a silkscreen with hand-implied pigment on paper, edition 18/51, signed and dated by the artist. The hand application of pigment over the screenprint ground makes each impression unique within the edition. A printer's proof from the related 2019 Anxious Men edition sold at Los Angeles Modern Auctions in January 2026 for $11,880 (estimate: $10,000–$15,000). Johnson's work is held in major collections including MoMA, the Whitney, and the Guggenheim.
