Salvador Dali
Latecomer From the Last Planet (The Conquest of Cosmos II) — Salvador Dali
The Conquest of Cosmos series (1974–77) consists of twelve drypoints with lithographic color on BFK Rives paper, published by Jean Lavigne, Paris, in an edition of 195 hand-signed and numbered impressions. The suite was issued in two halves: the first six prints (Part I) in 1974 and the remaining six (Part II) in 1977. The imagery draws on Dalí's lifelong fascination with science, cosmology, and surrealist metaphysics, featuring subjects such as a laser-wielding unicorn disintegrating cosmic rhinoceros horns and figures crushed under the weight of the cosmos.
This impression — Latecomer from the Last Planet (Part II) — is hand-signed by Dalí and numbered, acquired from Martin Lawrence Gallery with the original frame. A complete suite sold at Rago Arts in November 2022 for $12,500 (estimate $6,000–$8,000). Dalí's late graphic work reflects his synthesis of classical technique, scientific imagery, and dreamlike narrative that defines his career as a whole.
