Sex Parts (F&S II.172) — Andy Warhol
Created in 1978 from photo sessions organized by Warhol's assistant Victor Hugo, the Sex Parts portfolio of six screenprints on HMP paper directly confronts the boundary between fine art and obscenity. Each print in the edition of 30 (plus 5 artist's proofs) measures 31 × 23¼ inches. The series is among Warhol's most historically significant works addressing gay identity and sexuality, created during a period of intense political and cultural debate over visibility and rights.
F&S II.172 has appeared at Sotheby's Important Prints and Multiples Day Sale (2019) and at Leland Little Auctions (January 2026), with recent hammer prices ranging from approximately £3,145 to £4,964. Held in major institutional collections including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Sex Parts portfolio is regarded as an essential document of Warhol's late practice.
