Growing #4 — Keith Haring
The Growing series of 1988 comprises five large-format color screenprints on Lenox Museum Board (approximately 40 × 30 inches each), printed by Rupert Jasen Smith with his blindstamp and published by Martin Lawrence Limited Editions. The edition of 100 plus 15 artist's proofs is hand-signed and dated by Haring in pencil. Catalogued Littmann pp. 88–89.
Depicting Haring's characteristic human figures in the act of growth and transformation — figures stretching, branching, becoming — Growing #4 is among his most optimistic works from a period when he was publicly confronting his own HIV diagnosis. A unique trial proof (TP 5/40) from the series achieved $138,600 at Christie's New York in April 2023; standard edition examples at this price represent strong market value within the series.
