Pop Shop II D — Keith Haring
The Pop Shop II portfolio of four screenprints (1988) was conceived in the spirit of Haring's Pop Shop, the retail store he opened in 1986 in SoHo to make affordable art and merchandise accessible to all audiences. Each of the four prints is hand-signed, dated, and numbered from an edition of 200, featuring Haring's dense and energetic imagery of interlocking figures, dogs, and abstract forms in his characteristic black-outlined style.
Plate D from the portfolio, this work has been offered at Christie's and Sotheby's with individual plate estimates ranging from £30,000 to £45,000. The Pop Shop II prints make Haring's visual language available in a more accessible price range than his unique works — true to the democratic impulse that drove the Pop Shop project.
