Keith Haring

Untitled — Keith Haring

This 1981 sumi ink on board belongs to the same foundational body of work as Duck Man — the early drawings Haring made before and during the beginning of his New York subway campaign. Each work in this series was unique, executed with urgency and improvisational freedom that his later printed editions could not fully replicate.

Framed and acquired from Martin Lawrence Gallery, this untitled composition exemplifies the dense, energetic mark-making that characterized Haring's practice at its most raw. These early ink works are rarely available on the secondary market; the bulk of the artist's estate is held by the Keith Haring Foundation, which distributes charitable funds for AIDS and arts education causes — an alignment with Brighter Gallery's own mission.
