Andy Warhol

Flash — Andy Warhol

Flash — November 22, 1963 is a landmark 1968 portfolio of eleven silkscreens commemorating the media saturation surrounding President Kennedy's assassination. Its title is derived from the wire-service term "news flash," and each print in the edition of 200 is accompanied by silkscreened teletype text replicating AP wire reports from that day. The images draw from campaign posters, press photographs, and advertisements, printed by Aetna Silkscreen Products and published by Racolin Press, Inc., New York.

This impression is a unique trial proof — one of a small number produced before the final edition — printed in colors on smooth wove paper. Among Warhol's most historically charged print works, Flash transforms a moment of national trauma into an examination of how mass media shapes collective memory.
